Resorts offer a lot of perks other hotels might not. Finding the best resorts and even best deals often begins with an Internet search.

Resorts can provide perks beyond imagination

There are a few things that tend to put true resorts into their own classification. While they are hotels technically, the perks of resorts typically go well beyond a basic room with a bed.

While not all resorts are upscale, five-star locations that will break a bank, there are a few things that tend to set resorts apart from other accommodations in most areas. These include:
  • Location. One of the key things that makes most resorts stand out from their inn, motel and travel lodge counterparts is their location. From beach resorts to golf resort locations and even west resorts with mountain views, there is something about their location than tends to attract travelers. A hotel resort on the grandest of scales will typically provide the best beach access, best golf course play or even the best view of a mountain range. The pricing might not necessarily reflect this "best," but it generally will. The reality is that while it is possible to get resorts deals, in most cases a hotel resort tends to cost more than a regular hotel for a reason. This reason is often the location alone.
  • Some pampering. Most resorts offer perks that go beyond regular hotels. Whether it's old fashion Florida resort locations that offer family style living with kitchenettes and porches that open up onto a beach or pool or lake resorts that offer incredible views and crisp mountain air there will be some sort of pampering perk included. In addition, many travel resorts also offer spas, salons, massage parlors, five-star dining, expansive grounds, activities on site and so on.
  • Reputation. The best Panama City resort and Orlando resort locations, for example, come with pretty good reputations intact. A true resort is a destination in and of itself in most cases. From south resort locations to west resorts, when the hotel name "means something," chances are it's a resort.
  • Price. While it's not always the case, most resorts tend to cost a little more than regular hotels. In some cases, resorts will cost a lot more than regular hotels or inns.

Types of resorts

What exactly will be offered at a resort location will depend a whole lot on the kind of resort in question. Resorts can range from the very upscale to more laidback, family locations.

The most common types of resorts include:
  • Golf resorts. These are a big draw all over America and in Europe, as well. These hotel resort locations are generally located on a major golf course. Typically, these courses are considered worthy of tournament play. They will also generally offer other perks, including pools, spas, five-star restaurants and more.
  • All inclusive resorts. These locations offer a single price for everything. While that price might seem high, it can actually be a big cost savings. When the price of lodging, meals, entertainment and so on is all includes, these resorts can actually work out to be the best resorts deals going. All inclusive resorts are typically run by companies that specialize in all inclusive trips.
  • Beach resorts. From the beaches of Florida and California to Georgia and South Carolina, these locations are very popular, as well. The perks of most beach resorts include private access to a popular beach, swimming pools, fine dining and more. Some beach resorts and island resorts might even be created in a family style manner. This means they might include parks, play grounds, large open courtyards and even kitchenettes to enable private cooking.
  • Spas. Many Florida resort locations, for example, and even Hawaiian and California are located with giant health spas around them. The type of stay expected in these locations will depend on the location in question. Some spa resorts are designed for weight loss; others for fun and sports activities.
  • Theme park resorts. Many Orlando resort locations, California resorts and so on are built up around theme parks. Some of these locations might even be run by the theme park companies. These resorts are meant to serve as a family or couple's retreat after a day in the parks. From travel resorts in Orlando to west resorts in Anaheim most of these resorts are fairly upscale by design.
  • Singles resorts. There are even travel resorts that cater specifically to singles. These tend to be all inclusive resorts designed to help singles meet each other. They can range from lake resorts and mountain resorts to beach resorts and more. These resorts tend to have a lot of activities on tap to get guests to meet and mingle.

Getting resort deals

When the idea is to enjoy the perks of resorts without the full prices, it is possible to get some money savings. Resort deals are often found by those who:
  • Go off-season. Mountain resorts, beach resorts and other similar locations offer some pretty big price savings off season. In some cases, off season will still involve weather that's pretty fantastic. Going off season to a ski lodge, however, will likely result in limited activities.
  • Use discount vouchers. Some resort locations offer discount and voucher programs for travelers. The savings will vary, but they can be worth looking at.
  • Large bookings. When resorts deals are desired, booking multiple rooms can result in savings in some cases. When Florida resorts, for example, are chosen for family reunions, the resorts themselves might be willing to cut a deal.
  • Package deals. South resort locations, west resort locations and so on can all come with cost savings for those who book through package deal sites. When resort fees, airfare and more are purchased at once, the overall savings can be rather good.
Resorts tend to provide a little more by way of amenities than regular hotels. Whether their draw is their location only or the activities they offer, they can be a great option for a different kind of vacation. Choosing the right time of year to go, looking for discounts and shopping around can all result in some great savings on hotel resort locations.
